7 must-visit travel destinations if you win the jackpot

One of the best ways to learn about someone is to ask them, ‘if you could go anywhere in the world for a vacation, where would you go?’ If you won the lottery, where would you go? You can check the official Lotto results here, but when you’re done, here are seven places that you might have only dreamt about travelling to with those winnings!

1.      Hawaii

You saw this one coming. Hawaii is on a bunch of bucket lists, and with good reason! The weather is hot and sunny year-round, the water is crystal clear, and the food is excellent. You can walk right up to a volcano, treat yourself to a luau (a traditional feast that’s often accompanied by entertainment), and watch the sunset over a sparkling ocean. There are four different islands to choose from, and it’s easy to hop between them on small planes. Don’t forget to try the coffee on the Big Island!

2.      Italy

If you like food, music, art, or history, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Italy. The rule of thumb is to go to Rome first. Enjoy the food, visit a few museums, walk through the Colosseum, and soak in the remnants of an empire that almost ruled the world. When in Rome, do as the Romans do!

But why stick to only one city? The trains make it easy to go to Milan for the highest fashion (and yellow risotto!), Tuscany for some of the finest art museums, or Venice for astounding glasswork and an unforgettable gondola ride! Oh, and ask the locals about the best gelato shops; they know places that the travel books won’t tell you about.

3.      England (London)

There’s plenty to do in London, England’s capital city.

If you happen to have a bunch of newfound cash, why not go on a shopping spree at Harrods, the luxury store in Knightsbridge? How about visiting 221B Baker Street, the home of fictional detective Sherlock Holmes? You could also pop along to Shakespeare’s Globe, a reconstruction of the theatre where the Bard performed his plays.

And of course, there are plenty of other historical sites, such as the Tower of London, Big Ben, and Covent Garden. (Mind the gap…it’ll make sense when you get to London!)

4.      New Zealand

If you’re a fan of movies, you have to see New Zealand at least once. A lot of famous movies, most notably the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Chronicles of Narnia series, were filmed against this country’s breathtaking natural scenery. New Zealand even has Tolkien-themed tours; if you’ve ever wanted to see the Shire for yourself, it’s worth the trip!

5.      Dubai

This city is the definition of opulent. With the tallest skyscraper in the world, the biggest mall in that skyscraper, and an entire second city on a manmade island, there’s plenty to do. Outside of the city, you can go on a desert safari on the back of a camel. Whatever luxurious craving you have, be it sun, food, or glitter, Dubai has you covered. You might’ve seen surf and sand before, but never like this!

6.      The Galápagos Islands (and Ecuador)

The Galápagos Islands are a must-visit for nature lovers. It’s the island chain where Charles Darwin did a lot of his research for On the Origin of Species and features a lot of unique fauna, including giant tortoises, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, Galápagos penguins, and the diversely-beaked finches that bear Darwin’s name. You’ll probably land in Ecuador before taking a boat to the Galápagos, so this trip can easily double its value.

Ecuador has another list of attractions. According to GoBackpacking.com, you can see the Amazon rainforest, go mountain biking, and stand in the exact middle of the world straddle the equator! If you’re into natural science or have a sense of adventure that Dubai and Hawaii can’t satisfy, maybe it’s time to plan a trip to South America—and, of course, some of its islands.

7.      Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one place everyone should go at least once. Often called ‘adult Disneyland’, it can feel like you’ve travelled around the world while staying in one city. Every hotel-casino combination has a different theme. You can chill out in the world’s coolest bar, dine in a restaurant themed after 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and look down at the glitter and neon from 550’ above the ground when riding the High Roller, a massive Ferris wheel that was recently added to the strip. Bring your friends; they’ll thank you later.

Just remember that whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. We won’t tell you what to do there except have fun!

Conclusion

When you’ve won the lottery, the sky’s the limit! Even though you’ll hear people say that some of your winnings will be eaten by taxes and that you should save some of it, what’re you going to do with the rest? Cross a place off of your bucket list, for starters! Who knows? Maybe this article made your list grow.
