2019 Travel Media Awards finalist

Stuart Forster shares the news about being named among the finalists in the 2019 Travel Media Awards.

I’m ecstatic to announce that I’m named one of the finalists at the 2019 Travel Media Awards. Work published on Go Eat Do has resulted in me being selected among the five people shortlisted in the awards’ Travel Blogger/Vlogger of the Year category.

The Travel Media Awards

The Travel Media Awards were established in 2015 to celebrate editorial quality and excellence. The 20 categories include Consumer Writer of the Year, National Broadsheet Newspaper Section and Broadcast Programme of the Year.

I have a second reason to be pleased. I’ve also been shortlisted in the Trade Feature of the Year category for a piece that I wrote about solo travel in New Zealand.

Awards evening at The Landmark London

Winners of the 2019 Travel Media Awards will be announced during an event at The Landmark London. A cocktail reception is planned at the luxury hotel in the British capital’s Marylebone district before the awards ceremony gets underway at 7.15 pm on 21 October.

The ceremony will be followed by a networking reception with drinks and canapés. Here’s to sipping celebratory drinks rather than drowning sorrows!

Previous winners of the Travel Media Awards’ Travel Blogger/Vlogger of the Year accolade include Kash Bhattacharya (2015), Alex Hunter (2016) and Victoria Watts Kennedy (2017).

Hopefully you’ll forgive the self-indulgent nature of a post such as this one celebrating being shortlisted as a finalist in the 2019 Travel Media Awards.

The Special Contribution Award

Each year, a prominent member of the industry is selected for a Special Contribution Award. The Travel Media Awards’ advisory panel and organisers select a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry. Previous recipients of the award include Michael Portillo (2016), Rick Stein (2017) and Lisa Minot (2018).

This year Hilary Bradt has been named the recipient of the Special Contribution Award. Hilary and her husband, George, founded Bradt Travel Guides in the 1970s. She has written numerous travel guides and narrative books, and in 2008 was awarded an MBE.

An evening in London

I’m looking forward to attending the Travel Media Awards. It’s a huge honour to have been shortlisted among the finalists.

Whatever happens on 21 October, it’s encouraging to know that my work here on Go Eat Do is well regarded.

There are lots of people and organisations who provide the support that enables me to acquire material to post here. To them I’m grateful.

The site wouldn’t be what it is without the creative input of Design by Antony, whose work I highly recommend.

Importantly, I’d also like to thank everyone who visits Go Eat Do and reads blog posts such as this one about a rhino walk in Zimbabwe’s Matobo National Park. Here’s to creating many more posts over the months ahead.
